Shizutani school 閑谷学校

Meaning of "Shizutani" is "Shizu"=Quiet "tani"=Valley

岡山藩主池田光政によって開設された日本最古の庶民学校だそうです。
This is the common people of Japan's oldest school.

建築には32年もかかったらしく、343年前に建造されました。
It was built by Okayama feudal lord Ikeda Mitsumasa 343 years ago.

名前のとおり、山の奥にひっそりと建っていますが、その敷地や建物は かなり立派です。
This is as the name implies,  is built quietly in the heart of the mountain.

講堂は国宝、その他の建物の多数は重要文化財に指定されています。
This Auditorium is a national treasure.
The other Many buildings are important cultural property.
